The Chocolate Machine is based on a theory called Ego Depletion. This theory views the strength of self-control as analogous to muscle strength. The Chocolate Machine is a slander container, which is filled with wrapped chocolate balls. This machine is located on the desktop.
The machine releases a chocolate ball onto the desktop every 40 to 60 minutes. The user can now either eat the chocolate ball or put it back into the container. A counter registers the number of acts of putting back the chocolate. One of the implications of Ego Depletion is that self-control strength can be trained. Therefore, the Chocolate Machine confronts its user with temptations over and over again.
